Tennis at Dorking Lawn Tennis and Squash Club
We have an extensive tennis section accommodating all standards of play, from those who want to compete to those who prefer to play socially. We participate in local, county and national competitions, from junior through to veteran categories. The club holds a large annual tournament as well as periodically running American tournaments and other social events. As members of the Lawn Tennis Association, we receive an allocation of Wimbledon Tickets. To be eligible to enter the annual club draw for tickets, you must be a full tennis playing member of the Club and also a member of the British Tennis Association which all tennis members are encouraged to join.
We run a Senior Club Night on Wednesdays throughout the year from 7pm to 9.30pm which is open to all senior tennis members and is run by our resident Head Tennis Coach, Brian Love.
We also run a Junior Club Night on Fridays from 4pm to 7pm where all our juniors are welcome to join in with guided tennis sessions, again led by coaches Brian Love and his experienced coaching team.
We have nine outdoor courts, all artificial clay. Four courts are floodlit, allowing for play until 9.30pm Monday to Saturday. Payment is by coin operated timer clocks and bookings are made on-line in 90-minute sessions at a cost of £8.00. Daytime play is free apart from paying any visitors’ fees which are £5.00 per visitor (£2 per junior visitor) and are paid by the club member at the time of introduction.

Dorking Lawn Tennis and Squash Club has a friendly atmosphere and it’s great to see so many groups happy to play for the benefit of various charities supported by our members.
We recently saw a fabulous Ladies’ ‘Red’ Tournament, arranged by Carmen Schmidt, supporting the British Heart Foundation, where the ladies attending looked amazing in their red outfits and managed to raise over £300 for their chosen charity. The tournament was jointly won by Jane Ferrett and Sandy Thornton.
Of course, there are many groups of players who play for the pure fun of it, and it’s lovely to see them on the courts week after week, enjoying a game of tennis and then putting the world to rights afterwards in the lounge with a coffee. Long may that last!
