Chairman’s Newsletter – 25th May 2018

Your new board met for the first time this week. It was my great pleasure to welcome two new faces: John Barnes, Hon Secretary; and Nitin Patel, Bar Chairman to join James Harman, Treasurer; Nigel Wright, Pavillion and Grounds; Henry Hopper, Tennis and Jo Heal, Social; Jenny Sherlock, our President and Janet Sutherland, Administrator, to the meeting.  Due to work commitments our new Junior Chairman, Mags Thornton, and Squash Chairman, Ed Coppleston, were unable to attend.

GDPR

I am certain that you will all be aware that the new Data Protection Act has come into force.  We have been working hard to get ourselves into a position where we can publish an updated version of our Privacy Policy.  As a Board we are aware that we must get this right and are currently reviewing our data.  Please look out for an email from Janet that will tell you when it has been finalised.

MEN’S CHANGING ROOMS, SHOWER & TOILETS

We have now had two quotes for the work required to refurbish the facilities and are waiting for a third.  We realise that this is taking a long time to come to fruition but the outlay for the club is considerable, we are still aiming for work to start in September.  The refurbishment will be managed to ensure use of as much of the facilities at all times as possible and arrangements made for when they are not available.

JUNIORS

Mags has organised a bbq for the Friday junior club night on Friday 25th  May (open to all) and hopes that this might become a more regular occurrence.

TENNIS

A new ball machine has been purchased, Henry will be in touch with details about how to ‘book a session’.
Disability tennis with clients at The Grange continues with members of the club helping with the sessions.  We would like to look at ways of expanding our links with the community, naturally we will consider the needs of our members first.

SOCIAL dates for your diaries

Tennis Finals, 30th June,  bbq, Pimms and tea will be followed by a disco.
Christmas Party, 16th December,  canapés for the adults and the return of Captain Cutlass for the children.

MEMBERSHIP

There are still a few members who have not paid their subscriptions for this year.  May I please urge anyone out there who is still using the club to please speak to Janet to arrange to pay up.  If you have decided not to renew please would you let us know, it is always sad to see people leave, perhaps there might be something that we could have done better.

Finally, on a personal note, may I thank the board for their support and all of you at the club who lend a hand helping to make things run smoothly.
