Squash Leagues - Rules
Printer friendly format (Rules.pdf).
Welcome to the Squash Leagues! This is the way that the leagues operate - it's meant to be as simple and fair as possible. If you have any comments or feel you have been unfairly treated (by my computer), please give me a call. Feedback is always welcome.
Joining the Leagues
If you would like to join the leagues, please write you name and phone number down on the Joiners sheet next to the current leagues, and the league you would like to come into as the leagues are on the board. You may not quite end up in that league as there may be leavers and other joiners, but you should end up playing people of the standard you want. If you do not know which league to join, why not come to club night on a Saturday to get an idea where you might fit?
If the league has just started and you would like to join immediately, please give me a call.
You cannot join in A1 - you can only get there by being promoted.
Booking
In order to even out the cost of the courts, you are responsible for booking courts and contacting other players as follows:
- Player 1 books 2 & 3
- Player 2 books 3 & 4
- Player 3 books 4 & 5
- Player 4 books 5 & 1
- Player 5 books 1 & 2
But if someone has not contacted you please give them a call - you can always claim the stamp back from them!
Scoring
| Game Score | League Score |
|---|---|
| 3-0 | 7-1 |
| 3-1 | 6-2 |
| 3-2 | 5-3 |
Unfinished games are scored 4-4 (but please write the actual game score beside the league) or any other division of the 8 points which the players agree upon. Unplayed games for which no walkover is claimed are scored 0-0. It is unfair on other players to claim 4-4, and the computer will automatically change 4-4 to 0-0, unless there is a score written beside the league indicating an unfinished game.
Walkovers
If you are responsible for booking, you can claim a walkover if you offer three separate peak hour courts (and all three are not in the same week) and your opponent is unable to accept any of them. Your opponent can claim a walkover otherwise. But please try to set up your games even if you are not responsible for booking.
Where do I go to in the next league?
At the end of the league, the computer works out which league you go into next as follows:
- A1 Last two down 1 league
- A2 - A6 First two up 1 league, last two down 1 league
- A7 - B1 First two up 1 league, last one down 2 leagues, last but one down 1 league
- B2 - end First up 2 leagues, second up 1 league, last down 2 leagues, last but one down 1 league
A three man league has a first, last and middle, and a two man league a first and last.
The number of people in a league is determined by the number of people who have scored points.
Leavers
If you do not want to play in the next leagues, please write your name down as a leaver on the leavers/joiners sheet next to the leagues. Other players left in your league will be moved as if you were still there.
What if you have not played any games?
You are automatically dropped from the leagues unless you put your name down as a joiner.
League Cup
There is an annual competition for the league cup which is awarded to the person who has scored the most points in the leagues between October and April (inclusive).
Please contact me if you have any comments or suggestions - I can't make the leagues operate any better if I don't hear of ideas or problems.
